CASA in Action Proud to Support Jennifer Carroll Foy for Governor

Org Champions Progressive Changemaker with 2021 Virginia Endorsements

December 30, 2020, Falls Church, VA – On the cusp of a new year, CASA in Action announced today its endorsement of Jennifer Carroll Foy for governor. In supporting the immigrant community, equitable education, and workers’ rights, this powerful woman of color has earned the backing of the nation’s largest immigrant member-based voter organization. This CASA in Action endorsement commits a robust field and communications program to elect her.

“A public defender, mother, and magistrate judge, Jennifer Carroll Foy has walked in the shoes of everyday Virginian families and serves as a steadfast champion for immigrants and communities of color,” said Alonzo Washington, CASA in Action executive director. “Her exemplary service and commitment inspire us as an organization to talk to voters and spread news of her accomplishments. Carroll Foy will lead Virginia out of the pandemic in a manner that focuses on our shared values of diversity, inclusion, and equity.”

Jennifer Carroll Foy passed laws that help English-language learner students and defended the bill that granted in-state tuition for undocumented students. She passed a law outlawing wage theft, sponsored a bill to grant paid sick days, and pushed for legislation that raised the minimum wage to $15 an hour. She fought for driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants and successfully lobbied local officials to terminate the 287g program in Prince William County. As it became clear the pandemic was particularly impacting Black and brown residents, she called on the governor to provide more funding for bilingual contact trackers.

CASA in Action mobilized 1.2 million low-propensity voters in Virginia and Pennsylvania for the 2020 elections, which helped elect the Biden-Harris ticket. In addition, CASA in Action is closing out a powerful field game in Georgia for pivotal run-off Senate races, which will decide the fate of the Senate.

“CASA in Action was proud to support this amazing woman from the beginning and are excited to catapult her talent statewide,” said Luis Aguilar, CASA in Action Virginia Director. “Our members live in their districts and have seen the impact of their powerful fights as champions for working-class communities; we are ready to get out the vote across the Commonwealth for Jennifer Carroll Foy.”
