CASA in Action Endorses Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate and Bee Nguyen for Georgia Secretary of State

ATLANTA, Georgia — Electoral powerhouse CASA in Action is delighted to announce its endorsements of Rev. Raphael Warnock for U.S. Senate, and Bee Nguyen for Secretary of State in Georgia’s upcoming general election this November. These visionary leaders have demonstrated a commitment to Georgia’s Black, immigrant and working-class voters through their support for fair elections statewide and programs such as Temporary Protected Status, among other measures.

“We know Rev. Raphael Warnock is dedicated to using his Senate seat to fight for Georgia’s immigrants and voters of color,” CASA in Action Executive Director Alonzo Washington said. “He put that dedication on display last weekend, with votes against Republican measures that would extend Title 42 and unjustly force asylum-seekers to remain at the border with Mexico.”

And of Nguyen — the first Vietnamese-American woman elected to the Georgia House of Representatives — Washington said that when former President “Trump and his goons started looking for ‘extra votes’ in Georgia” after the 2020 presidential election, “It was none other than Bee Nguyen who took charge of the situation and put out a viral video pushing back against that disinformation campaign, and making sure that Georgian voters had their voices heard.”

Nguyen has a proven track record of supporting immigrants from the Georgia House of Representatives. She sponsored the Freedom to Drive Act in 2021, which would have extended driving privileges to Georgia’s undocumented community.

“Our members know that their votes are powerful,” Washington added. “When immigrants and working-class people come together and vote, they can deliver a message that reverberates from Atlanta all the way to D.C.”

CASA in Action’s endorsements of Warnock and Nguyen this cycle build on mobilization efforts that started in late 2020, when the organization’s field team dispatched canvassers to knock on doors for Warnoff and Sen. Jon Ossoff ahead of runoff elections that took place in January 2021. Both Warnock and Ossoff went on to win their races, flipping the Senate back into Democratic control for the first time since 2015.

“Our members are smart and savvy. They know when elected officials make empty promises on the campaign trail and then pretend they have amnesia once in office,” CASA in Action Georgia State Director Luis Zaldivar said.

“That’s why it’s so important to us — as an organization that champions the rights of immigrants, workers and people of color — to back candidates who will actually deliver for our members,” Zaldivar continued. “With Warnock and Nguyen, we have no doubt they’ll show up for our communities when we need them.”
