YORK, PA – Immigrant, Latino and working families powerhouse CASA in Action endorses Eugene DePasquale for Congress. Supporting immigration reform, equitable education, and climate change mitigation, DePasquale has earned the backing of the nation’s largest immigrant member-based voter organization.

“As an immigrant and a community leader in Harrisburg, I have seen Eugene DePasquale step up to demand transparency and accountability,” said Josefina Sanchez, CASA in Action Leadership Council member. “In his role as Auditor General, he launched a full investigation of the Berks County Family Detention Center that is operated by ICE after reports of abuses and neglect of families held there. He is the kind of leader that we need representing us in Congress.”

DePasquale was the first elected official to offer bilingual constituent services in the region. He also supports immigration reform including DACA and TPS relief. As Auditor General, he issued a lengthy report on inhumane conditions of Berks Detention Center and called for its closure. In addition, as Auditor General he issued a report and audit of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, the state’s student loan agency. He also supports the Puerto Rican community that calls Pennsylvania home.

Hundreds of thousands of Latinos and other voters of color have been mobilized to the polls by CASA in Action, making this endorsement a game changer for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District. The organization plans to roll out a robust electoral campaign with voter registration and mobilization of the communities of color in the district.

“We will revitalize Pennsylvania the best way that we know how: by changing who represents us in Congress,” said Thais Carrero, CASA in Action Pennsylvania Director. “Eugene DePasquale has shaken up how Pennsylvania looks at the issues that affect communities of color, so putting him in a Congressional seat expands the power of progressive work.”
