CASA in Action Backs Shamaine Daniels for Congress, Progressive Slate in Pennsylvania

YORK, Pa. — Electoral powerhouse CASA in Action is delighted to announce its endorsement of Shamaine Daniels for Congress in Pennsylvania this November. Daniels has served on the Harrisburg City Council since 2013, fighting for measures such as a $15 per hour minimum wage tied to inflation and affordable housing for local families. Her track record displays a longstanding dedication to Pennsylvania’s communities of color, and places Daniels among a formidable group of Pennsylvania candidates endorsed by CASA in Action for the General Election cycle.

“Our board of directors has spoken — Shamaine Daniels is Harrisburg’s next great opportunity to elect a champion of the working class to federal office,” CASA in Action Executive Director Alonzo Washington said. “Daniels has consistently supported policies that aim to improve the quality of life for families in her community, and that’s exactly what Pennsylvania needs as the nation struggles with inflation and stagnant wages.”

Daniels is among several progressive leaders on the ticket in Pennsylvania this fall. CASA in Action’s board of directors has also voted to throw the organization’s support behind Justin Fleming for Pennsylvania House District 105 and Ismail Smith-Wade-El for Pennsylvania’s 49th House District. Fleming supports organized labor and higher wages for Pennsylvania’s working families, while Smith-Wade-El has a strong record of support for affordable housing and greater investments in clean energy for the Lancaster community.

From Congress to the State Capitol, CASA in Action has endorsed the following Pennsylvania leaders for their commitment to communities of color and a strong working class:

Congress, for PA’s 10th District: Shamaine Daniels

State Representative for Dauphin County: Justin Fleming

State Representative for Lancaster County: Ismail Smith-Wade-El

“Communities of color in Pennsylvania and elsewhere have borne a disproportionate cost as wages fail to keep pace with living expenses in their communities year after year,” CASA in Action Pennsylvania Director Daniel Alvalle said.

“That’s why our support for visionary advocates including Daniels, Fleming, and Smith-Wade-El is so crucial,” Alvalle added. “Our members demand policy solutions that will make their lives better, and this cast of upstart candidates is well positioned to do just that.”
