CASA in Action Announces Partnership with SEIU to Bolster Support for Endorsed Georgia Candidates

ATLANTA, Georgia — Electoral mobilization leader CASA in Action is pleased to announce its partnership with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) for a series of campaign events in Georgia this electoral cycle. The events will include phone banking as well as media and voter outreach, as both organizations aim to drive turnout for prominent Georgia Democratic candidates such as Rev. Raphael Warnock for Senate.

“When immigration and labor activists come together, they’ve been able to score impressive victories, including newly-announced wage increases for custodial workers at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport,” CASA in Action Georgia State Director Luis Zaldivar said. “Our efforts with the SEIU continue in that same spirit, as we work to secure affordable health care and housing for Georgia’s working families and immigrants.”

CASA in Action and the SEIU’s joint Georgia campaign, titled “We Decide 2022,” will kick off this month with a phone banking event at CASA in Action’s Atlanta office on Thursday, Aug. 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. CASA in Action will host another phone banking event on Aug. 30, to be followed by voter outreach events on Sept. 1 and 29, and Oct. 13 and 26.

CASA in Action and SEIU will also collaborate in a press conference hosted by the National Partnership for New Americans on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. Members of the media will be invited to hear key takeaways from a new NPNA report on Georgia’s new voters, as well as remarks from a new voter who intends to cast their first ballot this year.

The We Decide campaign intends to not only increase turnout for the mentioned candidates, but raise awareness of issues central to Georgia’s immigrant and working families, including health care, education, housing and fair wages.

“As we expand our presence in Georgia, we hope to build the right relationships with community members and organizations committed to fighting for the working families in our state,” Zaldivar added. “We’re confident this partnership will allow us not only to build those relationships, but mount an energized campaign this cycle and keep that momentum moving forward.”
