CASA in Action on Verdict: Donald Trump Must Resign Presidential Bid

Jury Found Former President Trump Guilty of Concealing Unlawful Activity from American Voters During 2016 Election

WASHINGTON, DC – Electoral powerhouse organization CASA in Action calls for Donald Trump to resign his candidacy as Republican presidential nominee as a jury of everyday Americans has heard, weighed the evidence, and decided to indict former President Trump unanimously on all 34 felony counts, wherein he sought to identify, purchase, and bury negative information about him and boost his electoral prospects. Trump then went to great lengths to hide this conduct, causing dozens of false entries in business records to conceal criminal activity, including attempts to violate state and federal election laws.

CASA in Action mobilizes Black, Latine, Afro-descendent, Indigenous, and Immigrant voters. Board President Gustavo Torres issued the following statement.

“We demand ex-President Trump's immediate resignation from the GOP candidacy in light of his court conviction for concealing unlawful activity during the 2016 election. His refusal to step down despite this verdict undermines the very foundations of our democracy. We implore the decent and honest Latinos and working class people who are members of the GOP and independents to stand with us in rejecting former President Trump's candidacy and in defending the integrity of our electoral process. Together, let us send a powerful message that unethical behavior has no place in our democracy, and that we will not tolerate anything less than accountability and transparency from those who seek to lead our nation.

“This is not just a hush money case: these actions show the great lengths to which Donald Trump has gone to seize the presidency, including falsifying documents, presenting false narratives, and covering up his illegal actions in order to deceive American voters before and during the 2016 election. Too often, he has lied to voters and has interfered with the electoral process to seize power. Especially in states like Georgia and Pennsylvania where voters have increasingly been defrauded by Trump’s lies, we know that anyone who can cast a ballot deserves to have their voice heard.

“CASA in Action is an electoral powerhouse organization that mobilizes Black, Latine, Afro-descendent, indigenous, and immigrant voters who too often live in mixed status families. We firmly believe in this country, its values, and its democracy. We seek to protect the sanctity of every voter who seeks to have their voice heard at the ballot box. Attempts to overthrow elections and eradicate democracy must be quelled immediately. To safeguard the sanctity of this institution, we must ensure people in power who dismantle our democracy face consequences – including insurrectionists who are in power, like Rep. Scott Perry in Pennsylvania, as well as criminal conspiracists like former President Trump.”
