CASA in Action Announces Endorsement of Clarence Lam

CASA in Action Endorses Dr. Clarence Lam for Maryland’s Congressional District 3 Race

LANGLEY PARK, MD – The Board of CASA in Action has voted to endorse Maryland State Senator, Dr. Clarence Lam for Maryland’s Congressional District 3. With less than two weeks before the election, CASA in Action will launch an assertive, multilayered voter contact program that combines integrated field operations and dynamic communications outreach to empower, inspire, and turn out undecided Black and Latino voters in this primary election cycle.

Lam is proud of the endorsement by CASA in Action. “CASA in Action is rooted in a history of compassion, service, and delivering for immigrant families, Black and Brown, and working-class communities across the state. CASA in Action and I share a vision for a brighter future, and I’m honored to have their support as we look to deliver results for Maryland’s 3rd District.”

Lam was elected to the Maryland State Senate in 2023 representing District 12. Prior to that he represented Baltimore and Howard County in the senate. During his time in public office he has been a champion for healthcare legislation. As a doctor, Lam understands the importance of improving the health of Maryland residents. He was a Senate sponsor and champion for SB705, Access to Care Act, a critical piece of legislation that passed in 2024 – expanding healthcare access on the state marketplace to immigrants regardless of their immigration status. But his leadership on behalf of Black and brown immigrants and working families didn’t just begin there. He has notably led the charge on protecting immigrant drivers when ICE was abusing their personal information and voted yes on legislation to protect women and LGBTQ+ residents.

Continuing to champion these issues is why Lam’s running for Congress. He said, “I believe that Maryland’s 3rd District deserves representation that will prioritize the issues that matter most to them. The 3rd District needs a common sense, problem-solving approach to deliver progressive results on this country’s biggest issues, like reigning in healthcare costs, protecting access to abortion and keeping medical records private, getting guns off our streets, and improving our environment and schools,”

“From fiercely protecting the privacy rights of immigrant drivers to relentlessly advocating for healthcare for all in Maryland, Clarence Lam has proven himself as a leader our community can depend on. In the Maryland legislature, he has been a bridge, uniting immigrants from across the globe, regardless of their backgrounds. That’s the kind of steadfast advocacy he brings to the table now—and it’s exactly what he’ll deliver in Congress,” said Cathryn Paul, public policy director at CASA in Action.

CASA in Action will mobilize a powerful primary campaign to rally recently activated, newly registered,  infrequent Black and Latino voters in Maryland. Through canvassing, impactful mailers, innovative digital touchpoints, and compelling phone calls for that critical in-person outreach, this comprehensive program will engage and empower voters to seize the opportunity to cast their ballots for these remarkable candidates.
