CASA in Action endorses Brooke Lierman for Comptroller of MD

January 19, 2022, ANNAPOLIS, MD – CASA in Action Board of Directors voted to endorse Brooke Lierman for Comptroller of Maryland. Brooke Lierman, from her perch, representing the most Latino and immigrant district in Baltimore, has fought for immigrant families.  When ICE conducted raids at street corners in her district, she was there standing shoulder to shoulder with impacted family members.  Learning from the daily struggle of her constituents, she led and co-led legislation to ensure that employer abuse was reduced, that housing conditions were safe, and that parents could obtain driver’s licenses to bring their kids to school.  She has been a constant partner, urging government investment into the neediest communities in Baltimore.  As Comptroller she will fight to ensure that immigrant taxpayers are respected and commit government money in communities too long left behind.

“Brooke Lierman has stood with immigrants and working-class families for decades; from her leadership in protecting tenants in her district and across the state, to her consistent partnership in passing pro-immigrant bills in the legislature. We trust Brooke Lierman to continue fighting for immigrants and people of color when she becomes the next Comptroller of Maryland,” said Gustavo Torres, President of CASA in Action. “From the beginning of Lierman’s political career, she has stood with CASA in Action members, immigrants across the state, and working families. Maryland deserves to be represented by Lierman who has a demonstrated commitment to fighting for and defending those left behind; we look forward to playing a part in her election as Comptroller.

CASA in Action will mobilize thousands of voters in Maryland to elect Brooke Lierman as the Democratic nominee for the Maryland comptroller. From supporting bills that respect the immigrant rights of our communities, including the Driver Privacy Act and Dignity not Detention Act, CASA in Action is ready for Brooke Lierman’s progressive leadership.

“I believe in Brooke Lierman because she has fought for me and my community in Annapolis for years. She went above and beyond, especially during the pandemic, fighting for our community to stay housed, receive aid, and get critical protection. I trust her, my community trusts her, and we are ready to help her become our next Comptroller.” Armando Tema, CASA in Action member said.

“With the powerful movement that makes CASA in Action memberships, I know that I can earn the comptroller position so that Maryland can offer the best opportunities possible for every community, especially communities of color, to thrive. I have big plans for Maryland’s future and together I know we can win this.” Brooke Lierman said of the endorsement. “I am honored to receive the endorsement of CASA in Action. I look forward to working together in order to keep Maryland moving forward and making it a welcoming state for all where you come from or what you look like.”

CASA in Action has launched numerous elections that have transformed the face of Maryland and its leaders. By mobilizing thousands of Black and brown voters this electoral powerhouse is committed to progressive change leaders who can produce real results that our members seek.
