Advocates Take Over Offices of Senators Kaine and Warner to Urge Voting on the Spending Bill only if DREAM Act is Attached
Prayer for Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in Main Atrium of Senate Hart Building
Washington D.C. (WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17, 2018) – community organizers and directly impacted youth from CASA in Action and the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) partnered with faith leaders from the Church World Service (CWS) Global and the Franciscan Action Network (FAN) to host prayer vigils in Senator Kaine and Senator Warner’s DC offices. CASA in Action hosted prayer vigils on Thursday, January 18, across the commonwealth of Virginia within the district offices of Senators Kaine and Warner.
The central goal is to urge Senator Kaine and Senator Warner to vote NO on the upcoming continuing resolution (CR) if no DREAM Act is attached by January 19, 2018. The DREAM Act must protect immigrant youth and not harm parents and other immigrant communities. The time for words is over, and the time for action is now. Virginians need Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to be champions of immigrant youth by voting this week on a spending bill with the DREAM Act attached.

“We live in terror as immigrant youth are being deported every day from our only home. This is the time when Senators Kaine and Warner must show their stand on social justice,” stated Luis Aguilar, a DACA recipient from Virginia and organizer for CASA in Action.
“Our communities rely on Senators Kaine and Warner to do the right thing. We need them to stand on the right side of history and give us their commitment, not their words,” stated Jung Bin Cho, a DACA recipient from Virginia and Immigrant Rights Fellow for NAKASEC.
“In the last week we have shown our faces to Senators Kaine and Warner at their district offices to urge them to use their leverage to get the Dream Act to a vote on January 19th. They must vote NO on any spending bill that does not include permanent protection with a pathway to citizenship,” stated Claudia Quiñonez, a potential Dream Act beneficiary and organizer for United We Dream.
